Originally teased on TikTok a few weeks ago, just us by Gabriela Bee is a single inspired by the relationship between Will Byers and Mike Wheeler in the Netflix hit show Stranger Things. It has been incredibly well received by the community of fans of the couple online and for good reason.

Though the lyrics do make specific references to scenes and dynamics from the show, it also portrays the tragedy of queer love – whether it be unrequited feelings or not a possibility. This makes it relatable for a lot of people outside of fans of the show but will hit just that bit harder for fans of byler (the ship name given to the fictional couple by the internet). As someone who also takes creative inspiration from shows and films I have seen, this was done beautifully and was a perfect mix of specific references as well as more general themes.

I discovered this song as a fan of Stranger Things, and hadn’t heard any of Gabriela’s music before , however this single was released as part of an EP, and I will definitely be listening to the rest of the tracks. There is no doubt Gabriela is going to go far in the music industry, with soft vocals and incredible songwriting skills, and I look forward to seeing what else we see from her in the future.
